24M Unveils Game-Changing Battery: 50% More Range, Same Size
24M Technologies has unveiled a revolutionary electric car battery, boasting up to 50% more range without increasing size. The secret lies in their new electrode-to-pack (ETOP) arrangement, which seals each electrode in a thin polymer film, directly integrated into the pack.
ETOP allows for a significant increase in the volume of electrodes, up to 80%, compared to the traditional 30% to 60%. This is achieved by eliminating conventional methods of constructing modules and packs from individual cells, reducing inactive materials. The result is a battery that can be increased in capacity while occupying the same physical space, and at a cheaper cost to build.
The new technology offers flexibility in battery shape, allowing for virtually any shape that suits the application and available space. It is production-ready, with the first prototypes already complete and undergoing evaluation. ETOP can be used in various battery chemistries, including NMC, LFP, NCA, sodium, and traditional lithium ion packs. Despite the modest capex investments required for vehicle manufacturers to start using these batteries, they are significantly less expensive than traditional cell-to-pack approaches due to reduced unnecessary materials.
24M Technologies' ETOP batteries promise a future where electric vehicles can travel farther on a single charge, without compromising on space or cost. With production-ready prototypes and a wide range of compatible chemistries, this innovative technology is set to reshape the electric vehicle industry.
