A27 Road Closure: Temporary Fix Imminent, Long-Term Solution Coming
A section of the A27 is currently closed due to a decaying drainage culvert, posing a risk of road surface subsidence. The culvert is being replaced as part of essential maintenance work.
The old, rusted culvert is being replaced with a temporary plastic pipe. High-pressure efforts are underway to complete the work and lift the road closure by the end of March. Once the temporary solution is in place, it will eventually be replaced with a reinforced concrete pipe for long-term durability.
The road closure is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and road workers. There may still be partial closures on the A27 stretch after the initial road closure is lifted, as the work to replace the culvert is a complex process. The concrete pipe will provide a more robust solution, but it will take time to install.
The A27 road closure is expected to be lifted by the end of March, following the replacement of the decaying culvert with a temporary plastic pipe. The concrete pipe will be installed later. Motorists are advised to check for updates and plan their journeys accordingly.
