Aachen Raids Yield Minimum Wage, Social Security Violations
A series of inspections in Aachen and the northern district have led to administrative and criminal proceedings against several businesses. The raids, conducted on April 10, 2025, targeted barbershops and a tattoo studio, focusing on social security compliance and minimum wage laws.
Elke Willsch, spokeswoman for the Aachen Main Customs Office, revealed that minimum wage violations are common during such inspections. One barbershop owner was fined for failing to keep accurate time records. Meanwhile, criminal proceedings began against a tattoo studio for withholding and misappropriating wages, as well as employing two workers illegally without work permits.
The inspections ensured that businesses adhered to the legal minimum wage of €12.82 per hour and fulfilled their social security obligations.
The inspections highlight the importance of compliance with labor laws and social security regulations. Businesses found violating these rules face administrative offenses and, in severe cases, criminal charges. Further details about the specific cases are pending.
