ACCIONA Leads First Saudi Arabia Project Integrating Wastewater Treatment & Networks
ACCIONA, in collaboration with Tawzea and Tamasuk, is set to lead the first project in Saudi Arabia integrating small wastewater sludge treatment plants (SSTP) and main collection networks (CN) under a single framework with private sector participation. This pioneering project in the Kingdom aims to maximize wastewater reuse, promote local content, and enhance services in the Jazan region, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives.
The project, to be implemented under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model, will have a 25-year concession period commencing in Q4 2028. It involves the construction of main Collection Networks (CN) spanning approximately 166 kilometers, along with the development of 12 Small Sewage Treatment Plants (SSTP) with a total treatment capacity of around 74,700 cubic meters per day. Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies has been chosen as the Preferred Bidder for the SSTP project in the Jazan region. The Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) is committed to fostering private sector participation in water infrastructure development.
ACCIONA's project marks a significant step in Saudi Arabia's water sector, integrating SSTP and CN under a single framework for the first time. With a focus on maximizing wastewater reuse, promoting local content, and enhancing services, the project is poised to contribute to Saudi Vision 2030 goals while driving private sector involvement in water infrastructure.
