African Development Bank & South Africa's SIU Sign MoU for Anti-Corruption Cooperation
The African Development Bank's Office of Integrity and Anti-Corruption (PIAC) and South Africa's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement, inked on 3rd July 2025 in Pretoria, South Africa, aims to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including project integrity reviews and anti-corruption efforts.
Paula Santos Da-Costa, Director of PIAC, and Advocate Andy Mothibi, representing SIU, signed the agreement. Da-Costa highlighted PIAC's work on project integrity reviews and its positive impact on infrastructure projects. The agreement comes at a time when South Africa holds the G20 Presidency for 2025, providing an opportunity for discussions on public integrity and asset recovery.
Mothibi expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, suggesting specific collaboration in protecting whistleblowers. Both organizations see potential for learning from each other and enhancing developmental goals in Africa. The agreement emphasizes key areas of collaboration, including information sharing, technical assistance, capacity building, research, and training programs. These will focus on project integrity reviews, anti-corruption efforts, safeguarding infrastructure projects, improving public accountability, asset recovery, cross-sector collaboration, and protecting whistleblowers.
