Alert Issued: Banks Customers Suffer Fraudulent Activities
In a recent development, authorities have issued a warning about a current scam that targets bank customers. The scam, which has been identified as a phishing attempt, involves the receipt of letters that include a QR code.
The letters, which have been sent out this week, ask customers to update their online banking through the provided QR code. Upon scanning the code, customers are directed to a website where they are prompted to enter personal information, including their PIN, and specify a date and time for a supposed personal advisor call.
However, it's crucial to note that these communications are not genuine and are part of a phishing scam by cybercriminals. Banks such as Commerzbank, apoBank, Volksbank, or Sparkasse have not sent out such letters.
The scam is designed to steal personal banking login details. Once the personal information is entered, the scammers can create digital debit cards, which are linked to the customers' bank accounts. This allows for unauthorized transactions to be made, even after the call with the unknown individuals.
To protect yourself from falling victim to this scam, it's advisable to avoid entering personal information, scanning QR codes, or responding to such letters. The police also advise against creating digital debit cards through your banking app in response to such communications.
If you have received a letter of this nature, it's recommended to contact your bank directly to report the incident and verify any requests for updates or changes to your online banking. By staying vigilant and following these precautions, you can help protect your personal information and bank account from unauthorized access.
