Almaty Imposes Traffic Restrictions on Three Streets for Heat Network Repairs
In Almaty's Bostandyk District, temporary traffic restrictions will be imposed on three street segments due to the reconstruction of a principal heat pipeline beneath them. Work on this project will start at the end of May and conclude by the end of August as announced by TOO "Almaty Heat Networks".
Beginning May 30 and lasting until August 15, traffic on the northern side of Bukhar Zhirau Boulevard, between Bayturlynov Street and Markov Street, will be restricted. Traffic on the southern side of this street will resume on May 29.
Between June 1 and August 20, both directions of Satpayev Street will be closed from Masanchi to Bayturlynov. Similarly, from June 2 to August 20, traffic on Gabdullina Street will be curtailed from Rimsky-Korsakov to Nakhimov.
These restrictions are put in place for safety during the scheduled pipeline reconstruction, which was initiated in 1983. Despite the extensive work, the provision of hot water will be maintained.
Keep in mind that standard practices for such projects in Kazakhstan’s major cities may involve street segments surrounding main heat pipelines in Bostandyk District, particularly zones with ongoing utility infrastructure upgrades. These projects typically last several weeks to months. expected circumstances include temporary lane closures, detours, or partial roadblocks on or adjacent to the construction sites.
In preparation, it is advisable to consult the City of Almaty’s official website, local news outlets, or traffic management organizations for the most accurate and up-to-date information before traveling through Bostandyk District during this period. At present, no specific lists of affected streets or official alternative routes are publicly available.
Alternatives to congested major thoroughfares include utilizing parallel or nearby streets, checking local Almaty public transport or municipal websites/apps for updated bus or metro schedules, and driving cautiously due to construction presence, signage, and potential delays.
In the construction context of Almaty's Bostandyk District, the ongoing pipeline reconstruction project also affects other infrastructures such as the industry, finance, and transportation sectors. The temporary traffic restrictions on Satpayev Street, Bukhar Zhirau Boulevard, and Gabdullina Street may cause disruptions in the delivery of goods and services, potentially impacting local businesses and financial transactions. Commuters may need to find alternative routes, such as using parallel or nearby streets or relying on public transport, to ensure smooth transportation during this period.
