American Performers Take Over the Nürburgring: Corvette ZR1X, ZR1, and Z06 Beat Ford's Records at the iconic racing track

In a thrilling display of engineering prowess, Chevrolet has made a significant mark at the prestigious Nürburgring Nordschleife with its latest Corvette models. The electrified, all-wheel-drive Corvette ZR1X has set a new record for a non-professional driver, beating the Porsche 911 GT3 RS's previous record.

Drew Cattell, a GM vehicle dynamics engineer, piloted the ZR1X to an impressive lap time of 6:49.275, making it the fastest production car lap ever recorded by a North American manufacturer. This achievement is even more remarkable considering that the ZR1X, like its counterparts, was modified only with safety equipment required by Nürburgring rules.

The Corvette ZR1, powered by a 5.5L twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 engine, followed closely behind with a time of 6 minutes 50.763 seconds. Aaron Link, another GM engineer, drove the naturally aspirated Corvette Z06 to a lap time of 7 minutes 11.826 seconds.

All three Corvettes—the ZR1X, ZR1, and Z06—posted official times on the same day at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, showcasing the consistency and reliability of these high-performance vehicles.

These impressive lap times were achieved by the engineers who developed and fine-tuned the cars, not professional racing drivers. This underscores both the engineering and driving expertise within General Motors.

The ZR1X's 6:49.275 lap time places it as the fastest American production car at the Nürburgring, surpassing the Ford Mustang GTD’s 6:52.072 which was set by a professional race driver Dirk Müller. The ZR1's time of 6 minutes 50.763 seconds is just behind the ZR1X, and the Z06’s 7 minutes 11.826 is within the range of many quick production sports cars.

In essence, the ZR1X leads as the quickest American production car ever at the Nürburgring, with the ZR1 close behind, and the Z06 trailing but still within a respectable range for high-performance production vehicles. The Corvette ZR1X, ZR1, and Z06 have been officially verified with onboard video evidence, solidifying their positions on the Nürburgring's all-time production lap leaderboard.
