Applicants can now apply for Austrade's Digital Gateway to Southeast Asia initiative
The Australian Government's trade and investment development body, Austrade, has announced a business mission to Malaysia and Singapore from October 7 to 11, 2024. The mission, known as the Australia Southeast Asia Business Exchange Digital Gateway, is focused on the technology sector and aims to assist businesses in identifying and capturing commercial opportunities in Southeast Asia.
The purpose of the mission is to provide attendees with valuable insights into the current digital technology landscape, including the regulatory landscape, opportunities and challenges, sectoral trends, and market success stories. Briefings on these topics will be offered, along with a pre-departure briefing on Malaysian and Singaporean market trends, a technology ecosystem overview, and advice on localising your business development strategy and pitch.
Site visits to relevant innovation centres are included in the mission, providing attendees with the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the local technology ecosystem. In addition, industry networking events with business leaders in the region will take place to further expand networks. There will also be an opportunity for businesses to pitch to system integrators, venture capitalists, and connect with senior industry stakeholders, as well as targeted Malaysian and Singaporean customers.
Participation in Tech Week Singapore, under the Australian National Pavilion, is part of the program. This includes tailored business matching meetings and access to industry panel sessions. The mission will collaborate with state and territory governments and the Business Exchange program will conduct targeted business missions across priority sectors.
The mission does not specify which priority sectors will be targeted beyond the technology sector, but it will focus on the technology sector, specifically AI, cyber, and digital health capabilities. The goal of the Business Exchange program is to increase two-way trade between Australia and Southeast Asia.
Austrade is inviting expressions of interest for the mission, with the deadline to register being August 20, 2024. Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a Malaysia Women in Tech Forum and network with prominent female industry leaders.
The Business Exchange program is a key recommendation of the Australian Government's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040, highlighting the importance of the program in strengthening Australia's economic ties with Southeast Asia. The mission is expected to provide a valuable opportunity for businesses in the technology sector to expand their operations in the region.
