Bank of Latvia Deputy Governor Kālis and Zariņa Secure Parliamentary Support

In a significant vote of confidence, both Kālis, the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Latvia, and Zariņa have received support from more than 74 and 75 Members of Parliament (MPs), respectively.

The parliamentary vote took place on specific dates, with Kālis' term of office set to end on March 12, and Zariņa's on April 14. However, their terms would not have been extended, as per the current schedule.

Mārtiņš Kazāks, the Governor of the Bank of Latvia, had called on the Saeima to support both Kālis and Zariņa.

Kālis' responsibilities at the Bank of Latvia encompass financial stability, macro-prudential supervision, financial investment management, market operations, financial planning and control systems, and personnel management. On the other hand, Zariņa is responsible for innovation, data and statistics, audit, and information technology.

Interestingly, Zariņa's areas of responsibility do not overlap with those of Kālis. Zariņa oversees cash and non-cash provision and development, while Kālis is involved in the management of the Bank's personnel.

It is worth noting that nine members of the Nine For Stability! faction and Viktorija Pleškāne voted against both Kālis and Zariņa.

Both Kālis and Zariņa have been actively involved in the work of the European System of Central Banks. Furthermore, Zariņa is involved in the implementation of the digital euro project.

Despite extensive research, there is limited publicly available information about the specific roles of Kālis and Zariņa within the Bank of Latvia or their recent developments. However, it is known that Mārtiņš Kazāks has been the Governor of the Bank of Latvia since 2019.

For more detailed information or context about their positions or any recent developments, further research may be necessary.

The parliamentary support for Kālis and Zariņa, as requested by the Governor of the Bank of Latvia, Mārtiņš Kazāks, extends beyond 74 and 75 Members of Parliament respectively. With Kālis responsible for financial stability, macro-prudential supervision, among other areas, and Zariņa overseeing innovation, data, audit, and information technology, their roles in the Bank of Latvia contribute significantly to the business and finance sectors.
