Hall and Oates Partnership Dispute Resolved Through Arbitration

In a development that has been closely followed by fans and music industry insiders alike, the longstanding business partnership dispute between Daryl Hall and John Oates has been resolved through private arbitration.

The disagreement, which became public knowledge in November 2023, arose when Daryl Hall sued John Oates after the latter planned to sell his interest in Whole Oats Enterprises LLP (WOE) to Primary Wave IP Investment Management. WOE holds valuable intellectual property assets related to Hall & Oates, including trademarks, name-and-likeness rights, royalties, and digital assets.

In court documents, Hall accused Oates of blindsiding and betraying him, a claim that Oates described as "inflammatory" and "inaccurate." The court initially issued a temporary restraining order to halt the sale and mandated arbitration to resolve the conflict.

Following the arbitration, Hall’s attorneys filed to dismiss the court case, signalling an agreement on a resolution. However, the specific terms and outcome of the arbitration remain confidential and undisclosed to the public.

In his declaration, Oates expressed disappointment with Hall's words, stating that he was "deeply hurt" by the accusations. Meanwhile, Hall gave a scathing account of their relationship during the arbitration proceedings. Since then, there has been no reported communication between the two artists.

Despite the resolution, it appears that a Hall & Oates reunion is not on the horizon. Both artists have stated that they do not plan to reunite or collaborate again in the future.

The sale of Oates' stake in Whole Oats Enterprises LLP was paused by the judge, but the outcome of this aspect of the dispute remains unknown. The judge has filed a proposed order to dismiss the case, but the details of this order have not been made public.
