Ascension-BAföG and Holdings: Complete Guide

The Advanced Training BaföG, a crucial financial aid programme for vocational education in Germany, plays a significant role in supporting individuals during their training. Here's a breakdown of what you need to know about this programme.

Firstly, the Advanced Training BaföG regulations directly impact the financial support during the training. The KfW funding, a key partner in this programme, considers training costs and living expenses as important factors.

For singles, individual allowances differ from those of married and registered partners in BaföG calculations. However, it's worth noting that the maintenance contribution is income-independent.

Singles can keep a certain amount of assets before they are considered in BaföG calculations, and for married couples and registered partners, joint assets are taken into account. It's essential to ensure that the assets do not exceed the permissible amount to avoid jeopardizing the BaföG claim, especially when submitting follow-up applications.

Reserves used to finance the advanced training are not considered in BaföG calculations. For those with a mini-job, deducting the advertising cost allowance and the social allowance can reduce income and increase BaföG eligibility.

The Advanced Training BaföG offers various contribution types, including full-time funding, maintenance contribution, measure contribution, and funding opportunities for part-time measures. The grant provided by the Advanced Training BaföG does not need to be repaid, and the allowance provided by the programme protects assets up to a certain extent from being considered for the benefits.

Assets that are taken into account include savings contracts and properties like single-family houses. The maximum funding amounts that a BaföG-eligible person can receive are determined by various aspects, including income and assets.

During the winter semester 2022/23, special regulations allowed certain incomes and assets to be taken into account more effectively for singles and older individuals. In calculating assets for BaföG, the applicant's income, as well as the income of the spouse or partner, is taken into account.

For single people and older applicants in the BaföG calculation, a higher basic need for students living independently (€452/month in 2022), additional age allowances if studying began after turning 30 (€210/month for students over 30, €235/month over 35), and were subject to the general BaföG rules on income and assets—no special changes for the winter semester 2022/23 were introduced, but the amounts may have been adjusted slightly due to annual increases in the BAföG rates.

Lastly, the KfW Bank provides a loan component for the Advanced Training BaföG, offering diverse funding opportunities for working individuals. It's always recommended to thoroughly research and understand the terms and conditions of these programmes to make the most of your financial aid during your advanced training.
