Augsburg Customs Seize Maltese Puppies in Illegal Pet Transport Case
Augsburg customs officers intercepted a vehicle on the A8 motorway at Leipheim, uncovering a case of illegal pet transport. Six Maltese puppies, aged 8 to 16 weeks, were found in inadequate conditions, leading to administrative proceedings. The puppies, destined for Belgium, were discovered in two cat transport boxes, insufficient for their size and number. The driver, a Moldovan, could not provide necessary customs or veterinary documents, nor proof of vaccinations. The puppies, though in good health, suffered from a severe tick infestation. EU animal health regulations, aimed at preventing rabies, were violated. The veterinary office confirmed these breaches and initiated proceedings for administrative offenses. The puppies were secured and handed over to an animal shelter in Günzburg for care and quarantine. They will receive vaccinations and eventually be rehomed. The incident highlights the importance of adhering to pet transport regulations. The puppies, now in safe hands, will undergo necessary care before finding new homes. The driver faces administrative proceedings for the inhumane transport conditions and regulatory violations.
