Australian Businesses Face 55 Daily Cyber Alerts, Urgent Need for XDR
Australian businesses are under siege, facing a staggering average of over 55 daily cybersecurity alerts, the highest in the Asia Pacific region. This alarming figure, coupled with 60% of cybersecurity professionals feeling they're losing ground against cybercriminals, paints a grim picture of the current state of cybersecurity in Australia.
Despite these challenges, Australian businesses are taking steps to bolster their cybersecurity awareness. 25% have already implemented Extended Detection and Response (XDR), with a further 42% planning to do so within the next 12-18 months. Real-time detection, highlighted by 58% of respondents with XDR, is seen as a key advantage in this regard.
However, the current security landscape is far from ideal. 61% of cybersecurity professionals admit their existing tools hinder efficiency. This is exacerbated by the use of multiple tools - 62% use more than ten, with 6% using over 20. Recognising this, 54% acknowledge the need to update security models for real-time protection.
The cost of inaction is high, with 85% of Australian businesses reporting revenue loss due to security breaches in the last 12 months. Automation and prioritisation, cited by 53% of respondents with XDR, are seen as crucial in turning the tide. Yet, only 35% of cybersecurity professionals recognise they have blind spots in their protection, indicating a potential underestimation of the threats at hand.
