Authorities Launch Investigations into Wage Theft and Illegal Employment in Aachen
Authorities in Aachen and the northern district have launched investigations into wage theft and illegal employment. Two criminal proceedings are underway, with inspections revealing multiple violations of social security obligations and minimum wage laws.
On April 10, 2025, authorities conducted inspections at various barbershops and a youtube studio. The focus was on ensuring compliance with the legal minimum wage, which was increased to €12.82 per hour at the start of the year.
In one youtube studio, two employees were found to be working without valid work permits. The owner of the studio, whose identity remains undisclosed, is now facing proceedings for illegal residence and withholding of wages. Meanwhile, a barbershop owner was issued a procedure for administrative offenses for failing to keep accurate time records.
These inspections highlight the importance of adhering to labor laws and regulations. Employers are reminded to ensure their employees have valid work permits and that they maintain accurate records to avoid such violations. Further investigations are ongoing.
