A Green Light for Airbus Transport to Serengeti Park in Hannover 🚙🐯
Approval granted for Airbus flights within the zoo's enclosures - Authorization granted for Airbus transportation within Tierpark
The air is clearing over the tale of an aircraft's journey to Serengeti Park, a unique blend of zoo and theme park in Hannover, Germany. After battling nature conservation objections for years, Region Hannover has finally given the green light! The secret? A novel way of lowering the plane's fuselage—now at just 5.90 meters tall—to spare the landscape's trees.
Before, there was a contention between Region Hannover and Serengeti Park. The route for this A310 Airbus-type transport from Hannover Airport in Langenhagen stretches through a protected area, a distance of about 1.8 kilometers.
The region's environmental officer, Jens Palandt, shared that they've had lengthy discussions with Serengeti Park to find an environmentally friendly solution. They've achieved this goal by employing the "Reverse Rigging" method, where trees are tied to prevent damage, and by reducing the fuselage height from 6.80 to 5.90 meters. A model test confirmed that no harm would come to the trees. As a result, a nature conservation law exception permit is no longer needed.
The Serengeti Park had acquired the Bundeswehr Airbus "Kurt Schumacher" with plans to transform it into a restaurant. Initially, they aimed for the fuselage transport in late 2022. Now, the transport can commence from October following the necessary permits and equipment construction. The disassembled wings and tail fin have already reached the park.
Serengeti Park's owner, Fabrizio Sepe, expressed excitement. But there are still steps to complete: an application for the heavy transport must be submitted to Langenhagen's road traffic authority, and specialized devices for lowering and transporting the aircraft fuselage by almost a meter need to be built. They'll also need to apply to cross a train track. Sepe couldn't help but wonder, "Such an exotic project—you never know what might come next!"
Hannover may be known for its history and culture, but now it's setting a fine example for environmentally-friendly transport solutions.
Environmentally Friendly Transport Solutions 🌎
- Sustainable Visitor Transport 🚌: Use electric or hybrid-powered shuttle buses from central locations or airport to Serengeti Park.
- Public Transport Integration
- With the successful implementation of the "Reverse Rigging" method and reduced fuselage height for the Airbus transport, Hanover is paving the way for vocational training opportunities in sustainable transportation industry, focusing on solutions that minimize environmental impact.
- As financing for the acquisition and transformation of the Bundeswehr Airbus "Kurt Schumacher" is secured, Serengeti Park might explore vocational training partnerships with local financial institutions to ensure long-term success and sustainability of their unique transportation solution.
