Aviva's General Cargo Services (GCS) introduces escalated Responsibility for Merchandise Shipments
In a significant move, Aviva's Global Corporate and Specialty (GCS) division has upgraded its Freight Liability insurance product. This enhanced version is now accessible to brokers via the Acturis E-Trade and Fast Trade digital platforms [1][3][5].
The key improvements include increased cover limits per tonne and per vehicle, a broader range of accepted conditions of carriage (including those from Logistics UK and the British International Freight Association), and the introduction of a new lower-cost ‘economy’ cover tier for clients not involved in Theft Attractive Goods. An optional Errors and Omissions cover can now be added online without requiring underwriter referral [1].
These updates aim to provide greater flexibility, accessibility, and competitive pricing to freight forwarders and hauliers, supported by Aviva’s expanded marine underwriting team, which has more than doubled over the past seven years to operate nationally across the UK [3][5].
In addition to the enhanced Freight Liability product, Probitas, in collaboration with Aviva, has introduced five new lines of business. These include Marine (Cargo, Fine Art & Specie, and Ports & Terminals), Construction, Renewable Energy, Contingency/Event, and unspecified other classes [5]. The offering of these new classes marks a milestone in Probitas's integration with Aviva.
Aviva GCS has also launched a new 'Real Estate & Construction' client practice, combining its Construction, Latent Defects, and Real Estate teams. This new practice is part of Aviva’s Global Corporate & Specialty (GCS) business and is a development from Aviva's previous 'Property Investors' title [2].
Furthermore, Aviva GCS has introduced new lines of business: Political Violence and Terrorism (PVT) and Accident and Health. These updates to Aviva’s Freight Liability product are designed to better support a wider variety of business models and client risk needs [4]. These new lines of business, Political Violence and Terrorism (PVT) and Accident and Health, are available on the Lloyd's market through Probitas [5].
These developments underscore Aviva's commitment to providing comprehensive and flexible insurance solutions for its clients. For more information, please visit the Aviva and Probitas websites or contact your broker.
