Axiom Space Launches First Indian Crewed Mission, Partners with Skyroot for LEO Access
Axiom Space has initiated the groundwork for Axiom Station, aiming to lead the low Earth orbit (LEO) sector. The company has partnered with Skyroot Aerospace, India's leading private space launch service provider, to advance crewed spaceflight and LEO access. This collaboration marks India's return to human spaceflight, with Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) set to be India's first mission aboard the International Space Station.
Ax-4 launched successfully on June 25, 2023, at 2:31 a.m. ET. Michael Suffredini, CEO of Axiom Space, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Skyroot Aerospace. Skyroot, India's first private company to launch a rocket to space in South Asia, successfully conducted the launch of the Vikram-S rocket in 2022. The company is now preparing for its maiden orbital-class launch vehicle, Vikram-1. Pawan Kumar Chandana, co-founder and CEO of Skyroot Aerospace, shared his excitement about the partnership with Axiom Space. Both companies are exploring opportunities to collaborate on era-defining space infrastructure. Axiom Space has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Skyroot Aerospace to explore these collaboration opportunities.
The successful launch of Ax-4 and the partnership between Axiom Space and Skyroot Aerospace signal a significant step forward in space exploration and India's role in it. Both companies are committed to advancing crewed spaceflight and LEO access, with potential collaborations on future space infrastructure projects.
