Yevgenia and Boris Shpigel, the parents of former Russian pop star Nikolai Baskov, have accumulated debts totaling more than 17.1 billion rubles as of August 19, 2025. The majority of this debt, approximately 16.2 billion rubles, is linked to a lawsuit filed by the General Prosecutor's Office, according to reports from RIA Novosti and bailiffs.

The bulk of the debt stems from legal claims enforced by this government authority. The remaining debt, around 900 million rubles, consists of taxes, utility bills, and other minor penalties.

Specifically, Yevgenia Shpigel owes nearly 1 million rubles in utility bills and taxes, in addition to 202.6 million rubles collected since February for other property penalties in favor of physical and legal entities. Boris Shpigel, on the other hand, owes 370.5 million rubles in taxes and utilities, 400 rubles in state revenue, and a substantial 449.7 million rubles in a criminal fine.

Boris Shpigel also has a criminal fine of 449.7 million rubles as an additional punishment. Attempts have been made to collect 400 thousand rubles in procedural costs in favor of the state from Boris Shpigel.

It's important to note that the debt accumulated by Yevgenia Shpigel for "other property-related claims" has been in collection since February of this year. However, the specific entities involved in these claims are not specified.

This staggering debt is a significant financial burden for the couple. In a separate development, the State Duma has previously discussed amounts deducted from pensioners' benefits for debts, providing a context for the financial challenges faced by many in Russia.

Financing efforts to recover the outstanding debt from Yevgenia and Boris Shpigel could have a notable impact on the broader business sector, given the magnitude of the financial burden they are under. Political debates regarding debt collection from individuals, such as pensioners, have been occurring in the Russian General-news due to this ongoing issue, suggesting a broader context for the collection process.
