Beatrice Offshore Windfarm's Towering Jacket Foundations Arrive
The Beatrice Offshore Windfarm, a significant project in the North Sea, is set to receive its jacket foundations. These structures, up to 71 meters tall and weighing up to 830 tonnes, will support the 84 Siemens Gamesa turbines, each with a capacity of 7.0 MW. The windfarm, located 13.5 kilometers off the Scottish coast, is expected to generate 588 MW of power.
The jacket foundations, with a footprint of 24 x 24 meters, will be installed in water depths of up to 47 meters. Fabrication of these critical structures began in the third quarter of 2016 and the first foundations are scheduled for delivery in the same quarter of 2017. Seaway Heavy Lifting has commissioned Bladt Industries to manufacture 30 of these foundations. Bladt Industries, based in Lindoe, Denmark, will produce the foundations at its state-of-the-art facilities. Seaway Heavy Lifting and Subsea 7 will oversee the installation of the foundations and array cables as part of the EPCI contract.
The Beatrice Offshore Windfarm's jacket foundations, once installed, will ensure the stability and security of the wind turbines. The project, involving several key players in the offshore wind industry, is on track to commence operations in the near future, contributing to Scotland's renewable energy targets.
