Sales: BMW Halts Decline - Mercedes Suffers Significant Loss - BMW Sales Surge 9% in Q3 as Mercedes-Benz Struggles

BMW has reported a significant turnaround in sales, with a nearly 9% increase in the third quarter, while Mercedes-Benz struggles with declining figures across various regions and vehicle types.

BMW's sales surge can be partly attributed to a weak comparison quarter last year, when brake issues plagued the company. The German automaker sold 588,300 cars to customers, marking the first increase after five consecutive declines. All three of BMW's brands contributed to this growth, with the core brand increasing by 6% to 514,600 cars. Even electric vehicle sales, though down by 0.6% to 102,900 units, showed resilience, likely due to anticipation of the Neue Klasse launch.

In contrast, Mercedes-Benz experienced a challenging quarter. Sales in Europe remained stable, but significant drops were seen elsewhere. In China, sales plummeted by around 27% to 125,100 cars. The USA also witnessed a 17% decrease. Meanwhile, van sales in Europe fell by 8%. Despite these setbacks, Mercedes' electric vehicle sales held steady at 42,600 units, preventing a further decline. Overall, Mercedes sold 525,300 passenger cars and vans to dealers, a 12% decrease from the previous year.

BMW's strong third quarter, boosted by a weak comparison period and broad brand growth, contrasts with Mercedes-Benz's struggles, particularly in key markets like China and the USA. Despite challenges, Mercedes managed to stabilize electric vehicle sales. As BMW awaits the Neue Klasse launch and Mercedes navigates market fluctuations, the competitive landscape in the premium car segment remains dynamic.
