Bremen Secures New Home for Unaccompanied Minors
Bremen's Senate has secured a new home for unaccompanied minor refugees. Gewoba, the property owner, has agreed to rent a house in the Neustadt district for two years, with an option to extend. This move aims to provide more suitable living conditions and avoid overcrowding issues faced in previous temporary facilities like sports halls and tents.
The initial reception facility in Obervieland, a youth welfare centre, will undergo renovations starting in May. This prompted the state to find alternative apartments. The chosen property in Neustadt offers 24 rooms with 34 places, spread over approximately 550 square meters. It provides a gross cold rent of €7,500 per month.
The Senate's decision to rent this property reflects concerns about space, safety, and proper care for the minors. The house in Neustadt is expected to provide a more appropriate environment for long-term residence, unlike the less suitable gymnasiums at the airport or tents.
The rented property in Neustadt will house unaccompanied minor refugees, starting from March 19. This move is a step towards ensuring better living conditions and care for these minors, as Bremen continues to manage the influx of refugees.
