Business Endeavors Promising for Croatian Corporations Through EBRD Investments
Unleashing Croatia's Hidden Gems!April 5th, 2025 - Croatia shines beyond the turquoise waters and sun-kissed beaches, and that revelation’s been brewing for quite some time. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) offers a treasure trove of opportunities for Croatian businesses across numerous industries.
As Glas Slavonije/Voice of Slavonia reveals, the EBRD's projects aren't just a drop in the ocean for Croatian companies; they represent a golden opportunity in various sectors. This became crystal clear at a recent event organized by the Croatian Employers' Association (HUP), the EBRD, and the Ministry of Finance.
The EBRD's Regional Director for Central Europe, Miljan Ždrale, announced that, by the end of 2024, total investments in Croatia reached a whopping almost five billion euros, with close to 260 public and private sector projects financed. Ždrale emphasized that over 70% of the value of the total portfolio was tied to the private sector, suggesting that this country offers more than just a picturesque vacation.
Last year, the EBRD invested a impressive 300 million euros in Croatia, and around 250 projects worth a staggering 2.2 billion euros in public procurement were conducted. This ode to commerce opens the door for Croatian companies to partake in a plethora of opportunities across the economic spectrum.
The Director General of the Croatian Employers' Association, Irena Weber, shared that the EBRD has been a catalyst for the development of Croatia's private sector and the funding of infrastructure projects for years.

"This is what HUP has been advocating for—that both public financing and financing from international financial institutions focus more on the private sector because it contributes to improving the business environment and strong GDP growth in Croatia," Weber stated.
Meanwhile, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Stipe Zupan, asserted that the European Commission encourages Croatian companies, among others, to apply for tenders for EBRD projects. He also pointed out the remarkable progress Croatia and its companies have made in essential economic development areas in recent years. Zupan emphasized that Croatia is now strongly committed to fortifying its business environment.
