Melhorn Sales, Service and Trucking Co.'s Relocation Plans
Melhorn Sales, Service and Trucking Co. is considering relocating its Mount Joy facility to East Donegal. However, the area is currently zoned for agricultural use, which precludes the building of a pullet facility. The company could seek a variance or special use permit from the Ost-Donegal Board of Supervisors, or purchase alternative land zoned for commercial use to comply with zoning regulations. Supervisor Kenton Sweigart suggested that if the new facility is approved, traffic lights might need to be installed at the intersection of the facility's entrance and Anderson Ferry Road.
Zoning Ordinance Amendment and Paribus Business
Zoning officer Craig Underwood stated that rezoning a specific plot for agribusiness is probably legally implausible due to all surrounding land being zoned agricultural. The company's president, Astin Melhorn, stated that the company's operations have outgrown the current site and the move would happen gradually.
