Wayfair Furniture Store to Close by End of the Year

The Wayfair furniture store in Kempten-Hirschdorf, a family-owned business that has been a staple of the Allgäu region for over six decades, will be closing its doors by the end of this year.

Current CEO Daniela Rothländer announced the closure, citing general purchasing restraint and increasing price competition as the main reasons. The news has been confirmed by the Allgäuer Zeitung, among others.

Rothländer, who took over the management of Wayfair in 2023 from Rüdiger Mayer, praised her tireless efforts and dedication. During her tenure, she set important impulses for modernization and acted in the interest of employees and customers.

In a statement, Rüdiger Mayer described the closure as "the hardest decision of his life." He went on to say that the company had to face challenging market conditions, including supplier network issues and a lack of skilled personnel.

The clearance sale, which started recently, has fueled rumors about the potential closure of the furniture store beyond the end of the year. The sale offers drastic discounts on over 8,000 square meters of exhibition space, including upholstered furniture, built-in kitchens, living walls, bedrooms, dining groups, coffee tables, mattresses, box spring beds, sideboards/vitrines, and genuine oriental rugs.

Wayfair furniture store is known for its long tradition and as "more than just a furniture store." The store has been a beloved destination for residents of the Allgäu region, and the news of its closure has deeply affected them.

The furniture store will be open for business Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 18:00, and on Saturdays until 16:00 during the clearance sale. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the discounts and bid farewell to a local institution.

Despite the closure, Rothländer's efforts and vision for the company will not be forgotten. She played a crucial role by setting important impulses, modernizing processes, and acting with great responsibility toward employees, customers, and partners. The legacy of Wayfair furniture store will live on in the memories of those who have shopped there and the impact it has had on the furniture industry in the Allgäu region.
