Cable car in Nizhny Novgorod breaks record with high passenger count

The cable car between Nizhny Novgorod and Bor, a key tourist attraction and an integral part of the transportation system connecting the two cities, has experienced a significant surge in passenger traffic following an upgrade in April 2025.

Prior to the upgrade, the cable car had 28 cabins. In an ambitious overhaul, 56 modern cabins with improved technical specifications were installed, increasing the capacity from 500 to 1,000 people per hour. This upgrade has led to a reduction in waiting times, making the journey more convenient for passengers.

The journey by cable car from Nizhny Novgorod to Bor now takes only 12 minutes, significantly shorter than the 40-minute drive via the Bor Bridge. In July 2025, the cable car set a record for passenger traffic, with 356,713 people using it. This represents a 41.2% increase compared to July 2024, when 252,589 people used the service.

From May to July 2025, over 900,000 people used the cable car between Nizhny Novgorod and Bor, a 36.1% increase from the same period last year (663,246 passengers). However, precise comparisons with the passenger traffic figures for May to July 2024 are not available due to a lack of authoritative data.

To keep passengers informed about the cable car's operation, a new Telegram bot, @NCD_Information_bot, has been launched. By following the bot's instructions, users can easily find out if the cable car is operating at a specific time.

The cable car between Nizhny Novgorod and Bor is located in Russia and continues to be a popular tourist destination, offering a unique and efficient mode of transportation. Despite occasional temporary stops due to weather conditions or planned technical breaks, the cable car remains a convenient and popular choice for locals and tourists alike.

The upgrade in the cable car's technical specifications in April 2025, a part of the transportation system in Russia, has led to an increase in public-transit passenger traffic, particularly in the finance industry as more people choose the cable car over the Bor Bridge. The Telegram bot, @NCD_Information_bot, launched to keep passengers informed, also caters to the public-transit industry, ensuring smooth and hassle-free travel experiences.
