Caroline Wayman details her journey of navigating difficulties during her tenure at the Financial Ombudsman Service.

In the bustling heart of London, Caroline Wayman, the Global Head of Financial Services at PA Consulting and Chair of the board at Nottingham Trent University, resides in South West London. With a distinguished career spanning various sectors, Caroline has become a beacon of change and progress within the financial services industry.

Born in Sunderland, Caroline's journey began early, delivering newspapers between the ages of 13 and 16 before embarking on her first full-time job at an insurance company in Kent. Her career in the City of London, however, is not explicitly documented before her tenure as CEO and Legal Director at the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Caroline's tenure at the Financial Ombudsman Service was marked by significant achievements, including overseeing the handling of 2 million PPI complaints. Following her departure, she joined PA Consulting, where she now advises financial services leaders on their most complex challenges, such as the upcoming Supreme Court ruling on the motor finance case or the impact of the Leeds Reforms.

A firm believer in the potential of the City of London, Caroline would change one thing about the city - ensuring people from all backgrounds can access opportunities and thrive. She is optimistic about the year ahead, believing the Chancellor's Leeds reforms can provide a platform for change and growth in financial services.

Outside of work, Caroline enjoys a variety of activities. On weekends, she can be found playing tennis or escaping to Cornwall. When it comes to lunch, she prefers Italian restaurants in Central London or a healthy Indian restaurant in Twickenham. In the evenings, she enjoys dinners at the Mansion House and unwinding with alcohol-free craft beers during the week.

Caroline's favourite book is Sam Freedman's Failed State, which she found very thought-provoking. As for her personal life, she lives with her husband and is proud of her 12-year-old niece, a fabulous footballer who returned from a tournament in Barcelona with accolades.

Caroline's motto is "Keep learning and moving forward," and she credits this philosophy with her success. Her best business advice is "This too shall pass," while her least favourite advice is to focus on the short-term. She shares a business faux pas of numerous dress code mistakes and trusting her instincts that the potentially 'silly' question is often the most incisive.

At 50 years old, Caroline continues to make a significant impact in her field. She is proud of chairing the board at Nottingham Trent University and finds the sense of possibility, energy, and history in the City of London to be among her favourite aspects. With her career trajectory and commitment to change, there's no doubt that Caroline Wayman will continue to shape the future of financial services.
