China Triples 'Mock-Taipei' Size, Expanding Military Training Ground for Potential Taiwan Invasion

China has significantly expanded its replica of Taipei's government buildings in Inner Mongolia, tripling its size since 2020. Known as 'Mock-Taiwan', this facility serves as a dual-purpose training ground for the People's Liberation Army (PLA), refining military strategies and conducting psychological warfare in preparation for a potential Taiwan invasion.

The 'Mock-Taiwan' site, built by the People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF) over a decade ago, includes detailed replicas of key Taiwan government buildings. These include the Presidential Office Building, the Judicial Yuan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Defense's Reserve Command. Satellite images reveal recent military exercises, with troops practicing urban combat scenarios and clearing roadblocks at the mock site.

Notably, a new 280-kilometre tunnel has been constructed, connecting the mock Presidential Office Building with the Judicial Yuan. This expansion underscores China's commitment to enhancing its military training capabilities and preparing for various scenarios.

The expansion and increased use of 'Mock-Taiwan' highlight China's determination to escalate pressure on Taiwan. President Xi Jinping's directive to strengthen 'realistic combat training' since 2012 underscores the PLA's commitment to preparing for potential military actions. As the facility continues to evolve, the international community watches closely, with the situation between China and Taiwan remaining a critical global concern.
