Chinese auto manufacturer ATMO initiates production at a Turkish factory, aiming to produce approximately 20,000 vehicles annually, starting from 2025.
Chinese automaker ATMO Group, known for its SWM and JAC brands, is set to make a significant impact on Turkey's auto industry with the announcement of a new production site in Eskisehir. The facility, located in the Eskisehir Organized Industrial Zone, will span over a million square meters and is part of a long-term strategy to revive Turkey's historic auto ambitions.
The production site, scheduled to begin operations in September 2025, will initially assemble up to six models, with the first off the line being the SWM G01 PRO. The G03F will follow in 2026, and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) is planned for 2027.
ATMO Group CEO Anton Chernov has called the decision to launch manufacturing in Turkey the group's most decisive move to date, highlighting Turkey's strategic importance after entering the market in 2022. The company aims to establish 30 sales points across Turkey by the end of next year, aiming to cover 90% of the domestic market.
The production process will start with a 25-30% domestic parts ratio, with plans to increase this figure to 40% by 2027 and over 50% by 2029. This increase in local content could potentially support future export strategies, as vehicles built at the Eskisehir site are expected to serve as a global exports route once they receive the "Made in Turkey" certificate.
However, specific plans for global exports of vehicles produced by ATMO Group in Turkey by 2029 have not been disclosed. What is clear is that the company is committed to increasing the domestic parts ratio in the production process, which will qualify the vehicles for a "Made in Turkey" certificate once they reach the 50% domestic parts threshold.
In addition to the new models, ATMO Group is also scheduled to begin production of its electric E30X model by the end of 2025. The production site will also see the introduction of a plug-in hybrid pickup in 2026 and both hybrid and electric SUV models in 2027.
To ensure service quality, an SWM Academy will be launched to train staff, with a target of 95% spare part availability. Vehicles built at the Eskisehir site will come with a five-year or 150,000-kilometer (93,206 miles) warranty, providing peace of mind for customers.
As Turkey's auto industry prepares for a significant boost, the new production site is expected to assemble up to 20,000 vehicles annually when it becomes operational. With plans to double this capacity in a second phase scheduled between 2027 and 2029, the future looks bright for both ATMO Group and Turkey's auto industry.
