Cities in Russia with the Least Disciplined Motorists

Top 10 Russian Cities with Highest Frequency of Speeding Violations, According to 2GIS

Cities in Russia with the Least Disciplined Motorists

Revised Article:

In 2024, a whopper of a study by 2GIS found that traffic cameras in Moscow, Volgograd, and Yekaterinburg captured the most speeding incidents of all the million-plus cities in Russia.

Moscow mauled the competition with the granddaddy of all speeding hotspots: the section of the MKAD at the Noye Vihinsky Highway. A year's worth of speeders on this stretch would run up close to 3 million rubles in fines, if the law had its way.

Volgograd roared in second place, with speed limits being trounced most frequently on Avtomagistralnaya Street (near the SNT Tюльпан-1 camera).

Yekaterinburg held ground in third place, with the Chelyabinsk Trakt at the SТ Ручеек seeing the most speeding incidents.

Krasnodar rounded out the top three, with drivers regularly putting the pedal to the metal on the Rostov Highway near Krasnaya Ploshchad (8 % of cases).

The city of Kazan also made an appearance on the list, with the highest frequency of speeding incidents occurring on Prospekt Mira, near the SNT Beryozka.

Joining Moscow, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, and Kazan on the list of cities where drivers seem to have a lead foot are Voronezh, Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Ufa, and Perm.

Maxim Berezkin, head of the "Transport" product at 2GIS, noted that when trips are navigated, the vast majority are violation-free thanks to heads-up info about controlled road sections. Previously, it was reported that Russians might lose their driving licenses via drone enforcement.

It's worth noting that while 2GIS is mainly known for mapping services, their data on traffic patterns can be insightful. For the most accurate information about speeding violations in Russian cities, it's best to consult a direct report or publication from 2GIS or relevant traffic authorities. 2GIS does offer offline maps for cities in Kazakhstan, but there's no direct mention of a study on Russian cities regarding speed limit compliance.

  1. In Yekaterinburg, the Chelyabinsk Trakt at the SТ Ручеек emerged as the section with the most speeding incidents, placing the city in third position among the million-plus cities in Russia.
  2. The automotive industry and finance sector in Yekaterinburg may have a significant impact on transportation as severe speeding incidents have been recorded, potentially leading to increased fines.
  3. Speeding is a pressing issue in multiple Russian cities, even extending to industries like transportation, as indicated by the 2GIS study which found Yekaterinburg, along with other cities, to have a high frequency of speeding incidents.
  4. Road authorities in Yekaterinburg, especially those responsible for the Chelyabinsk Trakt, should consider implementing stricter measures to deter speeding incidents and ensure the safety of the city's roads.
  5. The success of Yekaterinburg's efforts to reduce speeding incidents on the Chelyabinsk Trakt could serve as a model for other million-plus cities in Russia to improve their speed limit compliance and foster a safer automotive environment.
