City Unveils Major Traffic Improvements for Safer, Smoother Flow
The city is implementing a series of traffic improvements, including repainting bus stops, adjusting medians, and adding bike lanes. These changes aim to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
The Planning and Building Committee has approved plans to improve traffic flow at the Aachener- / Viersener Street intersection. This will involve adding a second lane for motorists and buses on Aachener Street and Am Marktstieg. While longer wait times are expected initially, the new lane aims to optimize traffic flow in the long run.
The median will be adjusted and greened, with new trees planted and some streetlights moved. A 2.10 m wide bike lane will also be installed at the intersection. The current bus stop at Marienhof will be relocated to the level of Kapuzinerplatz.
In Oberstadt, only two disabled parking spaces can be maintained in front of the city administration building due to these adjustments. Meanwhile, traffic management in the Steinmetz- and Bismarckstraße area is being optimized and will be presented to political bodies later.
These traffic improvements, including repainting on-demand bus stops to enhance traffic flow to the Minto parking garage and making traffic lights pedestrian-friendly, aim to create a safer and more efficient transportation network. The city expects some temporary inconveniences but anticipates significant long-term benefits.
