Roadwork Updates in Kenton and Campbell Counties

Road maintenance projects are underway in several areas of Kenton and Campbell counties, with pavement work scheduled for Madison Pike (KY 17), Dixie Highway (U.S. 25), and Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27). Here's a breakdown of the current status and expected completion dates for each project.

Madison Pike (KY 17), Kenton County

Paving work on Madison Pike commenced on August 12, 2025, with the segment from Moffett Road (KY 2042) at mile point 7.97 to just north of KY 14 at mile point 4.94 undergoing maintenance. The work includes crack sealing, electrical work, and a thin asphalt overlay (thinlay). The paving has been completed, and rumble strips are the last unscheduled task. A 24/7 closure near Misty Lane is in place, but access to businesses is maintained via a signed detour to Hands Pike.

Dixie Highway (U.S. 25), Kenton County

Paving work on Dixie Highway was scheduled from August 17 to August 22, 2025, from Hallam Avenue (mile point 6.26) to Carran Drive (mile point 7.88). Nighttime single-lane closures occurred from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with one lane in each direction maintained at all times to minimize traffic disruption.

Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27), Campbell County

Paving work on Alexandria Pike took place on August 20 and 22, 2025, between Bluegrass Avenue (mile point 20.49) and Moock Road (KY 1632) at mile point 19.84. Single-lane closures occurred at night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with one lane open in each direction during work hours.

The Alexandria Pike project is expected to be completed by October 2025, while the overall project in the area, including all related maintenance, is expected to reach completion by late September to November 30, 2025, subject to weather and other conditions.

Lane Closures and Access

  • Madison Pike has a 24/7 closure near Misty Lane with a signed detour to maintain business access.
  • Dixie Highway and Alexandria Pike have single lane closures during night hours (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) only, maintaining one lane open in each direction during these times.

Additional Roadwork Updates

  • A temporary full road closure on a portion of Burlington Pike (KY 18) will begin on August 8 and last until August 13 for cross culvert installation to improve roadway drainage.
  • A new traffic signal has been installed at the Pleasant Valley Road (KY 237) & Founders Way Intersection, and pedestrian crosswalk signals will be activated on August 11 around noon.
  • Crack sealing operations and some electrical work items are complete.
  • The work on Dixie Highway is expected to be completed by August 21.
  • Stevens Branch Road (KY 1996) - 0.2 mile point is currently closed due to a slide, with crews working on clearing the area and paving scheduled for August 11 and 12. The road is expected to reopen on August 12.
  • A KYTC Kenton County maintenance project will take place on August 11 on Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) at the 5.72, 6.46, and 6.75 mile points, with crews filling sinkholes in various locations. Expect single lane closures near each work zone location.
  • Alexandria Pike paving work will begin on August 19.
  1. Despite the ongoing road maintenance projects in Kenton County, including Madison Pike (KY 17), Dixie Highway (U.S. 25), and Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27), industry and finance sectors in Covington might still thrive due to the transportation infrastructure.
  2. As the Alexandria Pike project progresses in Campbell County, residents and businesses in the area should keep in mind the temporary lane closures during night hours for paving work, which is scheduled to be completed by October 2025.
  3. Additionally, motorists traveling along Burlington Pike (KY 18) in Kenton County may face temporary road closures from August 8 to August 13 due to cross culvert installation, which aims to improve roadway drainage. In other transportation news, a new traffic signal has been installed at the Pleasant Valley Road (KY 237) & Founders Way Intersection, set to activate pedestrian crosswalk signals on August 11.
