Construction work underway: a segment of Rostock's transportation infrastructure is being refurbished, causing temporary disruptions

In the heart of Rostock, a significant change is underway. The city's central traffic axis, L22 Am Strande, will be closed for eight days starting from Monday, August 10, 00:00 hours, until approximately Tuesday, August 19, 03:00 hours. This closure is due to the long-awaited renewal of a 600-meter section of the road between Grubenstraße and Wokrenterstraße.

The road, which leads past the city harbor, is heavily trafficked, with approximately 44,000 vehicles using it daily. The worn-out roadway will be milled and have its binder and surface layers renewed, requiring a total of 2,500 tons of asphalt.

The closure will also provide an opportunity for the Rostock Tramway AG to renovate the track layout on Am Strande/Warnowstraße, a task not undertaken in more than 38 years. The city administration announced the closure and renovation, anticipating significant traffic disruptions in Rostock as a result.

A detour system has been signposted for traffic on L22 Am Strande, but the specific alternative routes for detouring around the closure have not been detailed in the available information. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and expect delays.

The renewal process is expected to cause significant traffic disruptions in Rostock, but the city council believes the long-term benefits will outweigh the short-term inconvenience. By renewing this section of road, they aim to improve the infrastructure of the city, ensuring a smoother and safer journey for its residents and visitors in the future.
