In a recent gathering, the Neuwied district celebrated its annual economic reception, bringing together business leaders, politicians, and administrators. The event, held at Prangenberg Companies in Neustadt/Ehrenberg, was supplemented by the Sparkasse Neuwied, Rhein-Zeitung, Süwag AG, and Syna. Approximately 250 guests were invited to discuss the topic of "Generation Z" and Digitalization.

Sven Eßwein, an education expert from Baden-Württemberg, delivered a captivating lecture on the shift in values among generations over the past decades. He highlighted several key values and mindsets characteristic of Generation Z that companies must understand to attract skilled workers.

According to Eßwein, Gen Z has grown up with the internet, smartphones, and social media, making them extremely comfortable with digital tools and communication – a digital native fluency that companies can leverage for recruitment. This generation values genuine interactions and transparent communication, preferring flexible work environments, and seeks meaningful work that aligns with their personal values. They prioritize ongoing education and skills development, expecting employers to support their growth.

To attract skilled workers from Generation Z, companies can utilize these digital mindsets by leveraging digital platforms for recruitment, offering flexible and hybrid work options, highlighting company purpose and values, investing in learning and development programs, fostering authentic communication, creating collaborative digital workspaces, and ensuring job security and benefits.

Landrat Achim Hallerbach, in his address, outlined a four-point program for maintaining the district's economic position. This includes a reduction in bureaucracy, a new error culture, a return to values such as diligence, discipline, predictability, and reliability, smart and targeted investments, and securing skilled workers.

The Rhein-Lahn district holds a prominent position in the state comparison as the headquarters of global players and hidden champions. The event was praised by the IHK regional business manager Kristina Kutting and the economic developer of the district, Harald Schmillen, who commended the efforts of the hosts.

Landrat Achim Hallerbach also echoed the call of former Federal President Roman Herzog, urging the guests to take action to shape the future. Sven Eßwein further emphasized the importance of utilizing the new digital mindset of Generation Z, suggesting companies use a diverse range of apps to attract skilled workers.

By understanding and integrating these values and mindsets, companies can better attract, engage, and retain skilled workers from Generation Z, setting new impulses and shaping perspectives for the future of the region together.

The finance business played a significant role in the success of the Neuwied district's economic reception, as Sparkasse Neuwied, Rhein-Zeitung, Süwag AG, and Syna were among the sponsors of the event.

In his lecture, Sven Eßwein emphasized that businesses can leverage the digital native fluency of Generation Z to attract skilled workers, advocating for the use of diverse apps for recruitment and investment in learning and development programs.
