Schweinfurt Customs Office to Host Open Day on July 13
On July 13, 2024, the Schweinfurt Customs Office, located at Londonstraße 24 in Maintal, will open its doors to the public for an Open Day. The event will take place from 10:00 to 15:00.
The Open Day is aimed at students, interested citizens, and representatives from politics and cooperating agencies. It promises to be an enlightening experience, offering insights into the exciting work of customs. According to Franziska Schubert, head of the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, the Open Day's primary goal is to provide the public with a better understanding of customs operations.
Highlights of the Open Day include presentations of customs dogs at 11:00 and 14:00, as well as demonstrations of various control situations in different enforcement areas of customs. Visitors will also have the opportunity to witness live scenarios showcasing the customs office's role in ensuring smooth international goods traffic, consumer protection, and fair competition.
The customs district covers the entire district of Lower Franconia and almost the entire district of Upper Franconia. The Main Customs Office, as the regional customs office for Lower and Upper Franconia, is responsible for a significant area. It employs around 700 staff, with additional branch offices in Schweinfurt, Bamberg, and Kitzingen, as well as six customs offices.
The Main Customs Office plays a crucial role in preventing and combating undeclared work, cross-border serious and organized crime, and money laundering. Last year, the customs office collected 1.8 billion euros for the federal budget, highlighting its significant contribution to the German economy.
During the Open Day, information booths will be set up on various topics, including tax collection, customs duties, import and export clearance of goods, enforcement of sanctions in foreign trade, measures for species protection, aspects of smuggling and illegal employment combat, the prosecution of criminal offenses and administrative offenses, admission requirements, training course, and dual studies at customs.
Refreshments and an activity area for young guests are provided during the Open Day, making it a family-friendly event. Public visitor parking is available in limited numbers around the event area and in the immediate vicinity.
