Customs Office Warns: Heating Oil Use in Diesel Vehicles on the Rise
The Main Customs Office Aachen has reported an increase in cases of vehicles using heating oil instead of diesel, a practice known as 'heating oil dieselization'. This illegal activity, which involves hiding heating oil use, is not only harmful to engines but also results in significant tax evasion.
Officials have noticed various attempts to conceal heating oil use, such as painting diesel filters with color to mimic diesel. Heating oil is marked with a red dye to aid quick identification during inspections. However, even a small amount of heating oil in a fuel sample can lead to a full tank capacity tax charge.
The Main Customs Office Aachen plays a crucial role in preventing illegal competitive advantages gained through tax evasion. This practice, if caught, can result in severe penalties, including a prison sentence of up to five years or a substantial fine. Moreover, using heating oil in diesel engines can cause engine damage and increase emissions, making it an environmentally harmful practice.
