Customs Officers Seize 11,800 Packs of Smuggled Cigarettes on A94
Customs officers in Passau have intercepted a complex cigarette smuggling operation on the A94 motorway in Erding. An ice truck with a trailer was stopped, revealing a hidden compartment containing 11,800 packs of Bulgarian cigarettes, resulting in a tax loss of over €2,430.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and is likely facing further legal action. During the inspection, customs officers discovered a cleverly concealed double bottom in the trailer, where the illicit cigarettes were stashed. The driver confessed to installing the secret compartment and concealing the smuggled goods. The successful bust was praised by the head of the Landshut Customs Office, who commended the diligence and professionalism of the customs officers at the Passau traffic control units.
The seizure of the cigarettes and the arrest of the driver have put an end to this smuggling operation. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal action is expected.
