Customs Seize €150k in Smuggled Goods, Driver Arrested for Money Laundering
Customs officers in Schweinfurt, working with traffic police in Aschaffenburg, have made a significant seizure. They confiscated luxury items and smuggled cigarettes worth over €150,000. A Romanian driver, aged 30, is now under investigation for money laundering.
The seizure took place on May 3rd during a routine check of a BMW X5 in the Aschaffenburg area. The vehicle's occupants failed to declare the goods or provide information about their origin and destination. The items included ten packs of untaxed tobacco, gold jewelry, and luxury-brand sunglasses. The total value exceeded €150,000, with tax evasion amounting to around €34,000.
The driver is now suspected of money laundering. The further investigation is being handled by the Customs Investigation Office in Frankfurt am Main, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor's Office in Aschaffenburg. The suspect's name has not been publicly disclosed.
