The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) marked its 88th anniversary with a significant event at its headquarters, attended by key figures such as Luz Elena González Escobar, Emilia Esther Calleja Alor, and other distinguished guests.

Héctor Sergio López Villarreal, Director of Operations of the CFE, reminisced about the commission's establishment in 1937, which aimed to provide the country with the energy it needed for its development. He highlighted the historical need for electrical energy to become a right for all Mexicans, a mission that the CFE has been committed to for nearly nine decades.

The event featured a video presentation that reviewed the CFE's history, including its nationalization in 1960, and its current role as a guarantor of national energy sovereignty under the transformation project led by President Claudia Sheinbaum. The video underscored the CFE's significant contributions to Mexico's development and its ongoing commitment to the nation.

Luz Elena González, the Secretariat of Energy head, announced a substantial decrease in poverty due to lack of electricity access between 2018 and 2024. This decrease resulted in 184,000 families being connected to the electrical system. Sheinbaum, the Mayor of Mexico City, also highlighted the recovery of the Chapultepec area during her administration.

Veneranda Rubio Pérez, a biologist in the Directorate of Engineering and Infrastructure Projects at the CFE, oversees environmental studies, flora and fauna rescue and relocation, and consultations with indigenous communities before building new infrastructure. This commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility underscores the CFE's social character that drives its work.

The event also emphasized the CFE's role in supporting federal scholarship programs, such as the Benito Juárez and Rita Cetina scholarships in 2025. Llave MX, a secure digital identity or account, will be mandatory for registration and application to these scholarships. This account offers several benefits, including secure and simplified access to the scholarship application platform, efficient identity and eligibility verification, and the ability to prepare the Llave MX in advance.

Emilia Calleja, the General Director of the CFE, affirmed that the company consolidates the planning of the electrical sector and recognizes the concept of energy justice. Under its current leadership, the CFE is consolidating itself as a strategic company in the history and future of Mexico.

As the CFE continues to evolve, it remains dedicated to its original mission: providing the country with the energy it needs for its development while ensuring access for all Mexicans and prioritizing social responsibility and sustainability.
