Drunk Driving Spree: Multiple Offenders in Steinfurt Area, Woman Injured
Over the weekend, police in Steinfurt and surrounding areas dealt with several cases of drivers and riders under the influence of alcohol. Multiple incidents involved vehicles and a pedelec being driven erratically before being stopped and breathalysed.
In Recke, a Mazda driver was pulled over for zigzagging and recorded a breath alcohol test result of 1.4 per mille. Similar incidents occurred in Steinfurt, where a car driver showed a result just under 1 per mille, and in Lienen, where another driver registered 1.4 per mille. In Rheine, a man driving erratically was found to have a result of 1.5 per mille. Notably, a pedelec rider in Steinfurt was also found to be over the limit, with a result of 1.7 per mille.
In Ibbenbueren, a man driving an Audi A3 was found to be under the influence of both alcohol and drugs, with a breath alcohol test result of approximately 1 per mille. All drivers had blood samples taken and were prohibited from further driving. Criminal charges were filed against each of them.
On Sunday, 7 September, a 55-year-old woman from Steinfurt was involved in a single-vehicle pedelec accident on Dumter Straße while under the influence of alcohol (1.7‰). She was taken to hospital, but her name has not been made public.
These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers of drink-driving and riding. Police have taken strong action, with all offenders having their driving privileges suspended and facing criminal charges. The woman involved in the accident in Steinfurt is currently receiving medical attention.
