Dubai RTA Announces Expansion of Al Wasl-Umm Al Sheif Road Intersection

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to enhance traffic flow at the busy Al Wasl-Umm Al Sheif Road intersection by adding a second eastbound lane. This expansion is part of an ongoing road development project aimed at supporting Dubai’s urban growth and improving connectivity across residential neighborhoods and key roads.

The expansion project was announced in August 2025 and falls within a broader traffic improvement campaign across 40 strategic locations that started in June 2025. The campaign is scheduled to continue through September 2025, coinciding with summer holidays, to minimize commuter disruption.

The additional eastbound lane is expected to ease congestion, reduce waiting times, and enhance traffic efficiency at the intersection. This move complements recent RTA efforts such as widening arterial routes and adjusting signal timings at other busy areas to improve overall traffic flow and road safety.

The project aligns with RTA’s broader strategy to enhance road safety, connectivity, and support economic expansion by improving infrastructure in fast-growing areas. However, specific budget details for this intersection expansion have not been publicly disclosed.

It's worth noting that the expansion does not seem to have any impact on public transportation. Moreover, no information about potential disruptions during the construction of the expanded intersection is given in the article.
