DuPont Achieves Full Use of Renewable Energy Throughout Europe

In a bold move towards a sustainable future, DuPont has announced that it has already exceeded its 2030 target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 58% from a 2019 baseline, as stated in its 2024 Sustainability Report. This achievement positions the company strongly on its path to decarbonization and sustainable operations.

The American multinational conglomerate, which operates 13 manufacturing sites across the EU, has achieved this feat by powering all its sites with renewable electricity. This transition was made possible through the installation of on-site solar panels and the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

DuPont's commitment to renewable energy doesn't stop at its operations. The company aims to source 60% of its power from renewable sources by 2030, a significant step towards its goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity for its operations. This ambition aligns with the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and aims to support limiting global temperature increases to 1.5°C.

In addition to its operational goals, DuPont has set targets for reducing Scope 3 emissions, which account for indirect emissions from activities like purchased goods and services, and end-of-life product treatment. The company aims to reduce these emissions by 25% by 2030, and as of 2024, it has already achieved a 39% reduction from 2020 levels.

DuPont's Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer, Alexa Dembek, stated that the company is guided by a core value of protecting the planet. She further emphasized that DuPont's sustainability goals are aligned to meet the expectations of its customers, value chain partners, and the communities in which it operates.

The company's conversion of EU manufacturing sites to 100% renewable electricity is a significant step in its journey to further reduce emissions. DuPont has also joined RE100, a global initiative aimed at powering operations entirely with renewable energy. This announcement marks a key step towards its commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The 2024 sustainability report, which provides details about DuPont's progress towards its 2030 goals, further highlights the company's strong innovation, environmental footprint reduction, and advancing community impact tied to its 2030 sustainability framework. The report underscores DuPont's dedication to lowering the carbon footprint of its products and putting it on a clear path toward decarbonization in its operations by 2050.

In summary, DuPont's achievements in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to renewable energy are commendable. The company's commitment to sustainability and its progress towards its 2030 goals are evident in its 2024 sustainability report. As DuPont continues to make strides in its journey towards net-zero carbon emissions, it serves as a model for other companies aiming to similarly reduce their environmental impact.
