Catching E-Scooter Violators: Fines and Regulations in Sochi
During a two-hour raid, the Adler police apprehended 21 individuals riding electric scooters.
Recently, officials from the State Road Safety Inspectorate conducted a crackdown in Sochi's Adler District. They snagged rule breakers cruising around on e-scooters and other individual mobility devices.
During a two-hour spell, officers noted 21 administrative offenses against electric scooter (SIM) drivers. A total of 25 users ended up paying fines from kicksharing companies, ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 rubles, for disregarding rental e-scooter usage regulations.
One bizarre incident involved a 17-year-old minor zipping along on an e-scooter with a power more than 250 W without even a driver's license. Finding such flagrant disregard for the rules, authorities took the situation very seriously. They slapped the minor with an administrative offense and sent their ride to a specialized parking lot. The evidence was handed over to the commission on minors' affairs for further investigation.
It's important to know that no license is required for e-scooters that pack less than 250 W. These devices aren't classified as mechanical transportation. However, for e-scooters with a power between 250 W and 4 kW, and a top speed of over 25 km/h, you'll need a license. In essence, scooters in this power bracket are treated just like mopeds, and those with greater than 4 kW are seen as motorcycles. To operate these bad boys, you'll need a category "M" license, which you can get when you're 16 years old.
