During the spread of swine fever, Estonia proposes providing canned wild boar to the Military Forces of Ukraine.

The Estonian government has offered to provide canned wild boar to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in response to the ongoing African swine fever (ASF) outbreak. However, it's important to clarify that the offer has not been accepted, rejected, or specified as part of a larger aid package.

The offer comes amidst an ASF outbreak in Estonia, where the virus has been detected in 67 wild boars. As a result, the Estonian government is conducting a mass shooting of wild boars, and the meat from those found to have the ASF virus is being disposed of. According to Olev Kalda, head of the Animal Health and Welfare Department at the Department of Agriculture and Food in Estonia, the disposed meat does not go for processing.

On the other hand, the meat from non-infected wild boars is being used. Hendrik Terras, the Minister of Regional Development and Agriculture of Estonia, has stated that the meat is being used, but no specific purpose has been mentioned. As for the offer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it is only for canned wild boar, not for any other form of meat.

It's crucial to note that the ASF outbreak has not been reported to have affected the Armed Forces of Ukraine or their food supply. The African swine fever is a viral disease that affects pigs and wild boars, causing high mortality rates and economic losses in the pig industry. In Estonia, the outbreak has also affected domestic pigs, leading to the destruction of more than 17,000 of them.

There are no publicly available names of companies or organizations in Estonia contractually obligated to produce the canned wild boar meat offered by Ostaschko for Ukraine. The disposed meat from infected wild boars is not specified to be part of the destruction of more than 17,000 domestic pigs.

In conclusion, while the offer of canned wild boar from Estonia to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a response to the ongoing ASF outbreak, it remains to be seen whether the offer will be accepted or not. The ASF outbreak in Estonia continues to pose challenges to the country's pig industry and wildlife.
