Dutch Cabinet Halts SolarNL Funding, Redirects to Semiconductors
The Dutch cabinet has decided to halt the SolarNL funding program for domestic solar module production. This move follows recommendations from an advisory committee of the National Growth Fund, which oversees the SolarNL support program. The decision comes after unrealistic expectations for the program's success were identified.
The cabinet has withdrawn 277 million euros intended for the second and third phases of the SolarNL program. This amounts to a significant reduction in funding for the domestic solar module production sector. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy will now consult with stakeholders to assess the impact of this funding withdrawal.
Some of the withdrawn funds may be redirected to support the Dutch semiconductor industry. This shift in focus reflects the government's commitment to diversifying its investment portfolio and supporting key sectors in the Dutch economy.
The Dutch cabinet's decision to discontinue the SolarNL funding program and redirect some of the withdrawn funds to the semiconductor industry signals a change in government priorities. The impact of this decision on the solar module production sector will be assessed through consultations with stakeholders.
