Partnership dissolving in mid-2025: EDEKA-Network and PAYBACK to go their separate paths, officially beginning from 1st January 2025.

EDEKA-Alliance and PAYBACK to split from January 1, 2025, marking the beginning of their independent paths.

The long-awaited partnership between Germany's largest bonus program, PAYBACK, and the EDEKA Group is now official. With over 31 million active customers, this collaboration promises to revolutionise shopping experiences for EDEKA customers starting from 1st January 2025.

The partnership extends to over 700 other PAYBACK partner companies, making it easier for customers to collect points during everyday purchases. EDEKA, already a national PAYBACK partner since January 2025, will further deepen the integration, enabling customers to collect points automatically when paying with a linked Sparkasse card. This seamless process will make point collection more convenient than ever.

Customers can look forward to collecting points at around 12,000 regional retailers and major chains such as EDEKA. With this expanded network, customers can collect points without changing their payment habits, enhancing value in routine shopping.

Beyond shopping, customers can collect points for financial products and services through participating Sparkassen. This added benefit will increase the overall engagement with PAYBACK and its partners.

PAYBACK's user-friendly app allows customers to not only collect points but also activate coupons and manage their benefits easily. The app's modern design and functionality will make the program even more attractive at EDEKA and other partners.

Data protection is a priority for both PAYBACK and Sparkassen. Only essential information like PAYBACK number and payment date will be shared, addressing consumer privacy concerns.

EDEKA customers can link their PAYBACK app with the apps of EDEKA and Netto Marken-Discount, allowing for a seamless shopping experience with just one scan. The EDEKA Group, with its headquarters in Hamburg, oversees the national product business and provides diverse impulses for the realization of alliance-wide goals.

The partnership will be promoted through a broad-based campaign, including TV and online spots, Out-of-Home sector communication, leaflets, social media content, and extensive promotion by EDEKA retailers. Customers will be welcomed with particularly attractive offers at the start of the partnership.

Claas Meineke, Board Member for Marketing and Sales at EDEKA ZENTRALE Stiftung & Co. KG, stated that the collaboration with PAYBACK will create more shopping advantages in the EDEKA Group and make it more attractive to customers.

The EDEKA Group, with around 11,000 markets, is the leading food retail cooperative in Germany. The EDEKA alliance is shaped by medium-sized businesses and cooperatives, with around 3,400 independent retailers and seven regional wholesalers.

In 2023, EDEKA achieved a turnover of around 70.7 billion euros with around 11,050 markets and around 410,700 employees. EDEKA is also one of the leading training providers in Germany, with over 19,200 trainees.

This collaboration between PAYBACK and EDEKA Group also includes over 700 other retail business partners, allowing customers to collect points during their finance-related transactions as well as retail purchases. With the expansion of the PAYBACK network, customers can collect points even for financial products and services through participating Sparkassen.

Beyond the retail industry, this partnership promises to revolutionize shopping experiences in the finance sector as well, increasing overall engagement with PAYBACK and its partners.
