Eiffage Wins EUR 1.5B Offshore Wind Substation Deal for France's Energy Transition
Eiffage, via its subsidiary Smulders, has secured a significant contract worth over EUR 1.5 billion. The deal involves the development and construction of three offshore wind substations for French projects. These substations will play a crucial role in the country's transition to renewable energy.
The contract covers the construction of jacket foundations and their topsides, which house essential electrical equipment. The topsides, measuring over 20 metres high, 35 metres wide, and 70 metres long, will weigh approximately 5,000 tonnes each. Each substation will have a substantial capacity of 750 MW, collectively handling over 2 GW of decarbonised electricity.
The jackets, which support the topsides, will vary in size depending on the project. For the Bretagne Sud project, they will be 115 metres high, 25 metres wide, and 35 metres long. Meanwhile, the Narbonnaise Sud-Hérault and Fos projects will have jackets approximately 110 metres high, 45 metres wide, and 50 metres long.
The various components of these substations will be manufactured in factories of Smulders and its industrial partners across France and Europe.
Eiffage's contract win is part of France's broader commitment to offshore wind energy. The substations, once operational, will significantly contribute to the country's renewable energy targets. The construction process will also stimulate local economies and create jobs in the manufacturing sector.
