Encouragement for Organizations to Aid Government in Providing Aid to the Vulnerable

In a heartfelt speech at the 28th anniversary of the Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan commended the society for its unwavering commitment to uplifting the less fortunate.

Dr. Chan emphasized the importance of pooling resources together to help more people in need, urging non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and corporate bodies to collaborate in rendering assistance. This call to action is reflected in ongoing local initiatives where NGOs and corporations actively cooperate to support marginalized groups.

One such example is Dynasty Hotel Miri, which supports five local NGOs under its annual charity fund. The hotel provides financial contributions to organizations such as the Miri Red Crescent Dialysis Centre, Pusat Morsjaya Community-based Rehabilitation Centre, Association of Parents with Special Children, Miri Home for the Aged, and the Malaysian Diabetes Association Miri. These NGOs work directly with disadvantaged groups in Miri, offering medical support, rehabilitation, care for special needs children, elderly care, and diabetes-related assistance.

The hotel also organizes festive distribution programs during major celebrations (Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak) and smaller-scale efforts throughout the year to aid low-income households. This community support is sustained through the hotel’s fundraising activities like charity fund half-marathons.

Dr. Chan praised the caring spirit of Mirians, stating that it demonstrates the 1Malaysia concept. He also emphasized that relying solely on the government for assistance might leave some less fortunate individuals out. He encouraged the people to count their blessings for living in peace and harmony, despite differences in religious and racial backgrounds.

The Miri Che Lee Khor Moral Uplifting Society, under the leadership of Pujut assemblyman Andy Chia and mayor Lawrence Lai, has never failed to render immediate assistance during disasters. The society is ready to continue its work, ready to help those in need.

Dr. Chan concluded by encouraging NGOs and corporate bodies to enhance, cherish, and preserve the 1Malaysia concept, which is crucial for the continuous development and progress of the state and country. This collaborative approach is vital for fostering social welfare in Miri, ensuring that no one is left behind.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Chan, emphasized that the 1Malaysia concept, found in the collaborative efforts of NGOs and corporations, is key for fostering social welfare in Miri, ensuring no one is left behind. Enhancing this collaborative approach in policy-and-legislation, particularly in business and finance, can lead to more general-news stories highlighting successful initiatives that uplift the less fortunate.
