Toyota Tundra Owners Continue to Face Engine Issues After Recall

Chris Horn, a long-time Toyota enthusiast who owns over 20 vehicles from the brand, is one such owner experiencing persistent problems with his 2024 Toyota Tundra. After his engine was replaced under the recall, the truck continues to perform poorly, causing significant issues for Chris.

In a post on the 2023-2025 Toyota Tundra Owners Facebook page, Chris asked if there are any groups addressing the engine issues with these Tundras that are getting favorable results. However, his post was removed by the moderators due to negative comments.

Despite reaching out to the dealer and Toyota Corporate for help, Chris has not received any assistance. As a result, he is considering joining forces with other similarly affected Tundra owners to collectively pressure Toyota for a resolution. Chris is also exploring legal avenues, including lemon law provisions in his state, and is even contemplating hiring a lawyer.

Documenting all communications, repair attempts, and diagnostic reports is crucial for Chris, as he seeks independent, third-party evaluations of his truck's current condition. He has provided video and written documentation of the improvements made to his truck after the rebuild, but the issues persist.

Chris's story serves as a reminder that a recall fix may not equate to a complete remedy for consumers when manufacturers fail to stand by their products. The engine replacement process for the Tundra is extensive, requiring 13–21 hours per vehicle, causing repair backlogs at dealerships. Despite the replacements, some trucks continue to experience performance degradation and remain sidelined for diagnosis and further repairs.

These issues appear across different model years, including some 2025 models, and affect both hybrid and non-hybrid variants of the Tundra. The engine problems are causing customer dissatisfaction and concerns about safety and resale value.

Denis Flierl, a Senior Torque News Reporter with a 30+ year tenure in the automotive industry, has been covering this story. Denis initially worked in a consulting role with every major car brand and later became a freelance journalist, test-driving new vehicles. He has been following Chris's case closely and reports that the engine issues are not limited to the recalled vehicles, but also affect those not on the recall list.

Chris believes Toyota is not investigating the engine issues and is only rebuilding engines to avoid addressing a fundamental design flaw. He feels he has been treated poorly by Toyota and is considering never buying or supporting Toyota again.

In light of these developments, it is crucial for Toyota to address these ongoing issues and provide a lasting solution for affected Tundra owners.
