Entrepreneur Arrested for Alleged Fraud, Unpaid Wages, and Social Security Contributions

A 65-year-old construction business owner from the Rhein-Neckar district has been arrested on suspicion of multiple fraudulent activities. The owner, whose name has not been disclosed, faces 24 charges of withholding and misappropriating wages, and 40 counts of fraudulent business practices. The owner was initially taken into custody by the Karlsruhe Customs Office and later presented to the investigating judge at the Heidelberg Local Court. The judge ordered the execution of the arrest warrant, citing a high risk of repetition due to the concrete danger of further offenses. This is not the owner's first encounter with the law. Between 2016 and 2021, they were investigated for similar offenses, resulting in damages exceeding 219,000 euros. The total damage caused so far amounts to approximately 98,600 euros in unpaid social security contributions and around 71,600 euros not paid to ULAK, the Vacation and Wage Compensation Fund. The owner's arrest follows an investigation into their employment of workers without paying social security contributions and making false statements to ULAK. The exact nature of the fraudulent business practices remains under investigation. The owner will remain in detention pending further legal proceedings.
